Cwm Fagor (ID: 103000000004447)
Pryor & Rickett Silviculture
Cwm Fagor lies approximately 1 miles west-sout-west of Devauden in Monnmouthshire and is situated in a beautiful rural part of South-East Wales, just west of the Wye Valley AONB. The land here was acquired by Thorlux Lighting in 2008, with a view to establishing a carbon sequestration project on pasture land. A broad aim of the project is not only to mitigate the emissions generated by the company's activities, but also to provide an opportunity for the customers of its products to commit to sequestering their own CO2 emissions through this carbon-offsetting project. These fields conveniently lie within the Forestry Commission's CCW target area for extending that semi-natural woodland coverage, and the project as a wholw, when fully established, will provide considerable linkage between 3 currently isolated Ancient and Semi-Natural Woodland areas. It is envisaged that the projec t will take some 15-20 years in total to establish, but there is a broad aim of a total of 29.15ha hectares which will be planted over the first 5 years of the project. The project is intended to be utilised by the company for educational purposes, as well as providing low levels of permissive access for the public to enjoy and appreciate the new woodlands.
