The Freshwater Trust removed invasive plants and installed native riparian vegetation on the Applegate River and along a reclaimed aggregate mine, on a tributary of the Rogue River in Josephine County, Oregon. This lower reach of the Applegate River provides important migratory and rearing habitat for summer and winter steelhead, fall Chinook and coho salmon. Once vegetation establishes along the reclaimed aggregate mines, these areas could provide slow water habitat and cover for native fish. Complex and productive off channel habitats are limited in this lower river reach. The landowners have granted The Freshwater Trust access to the site for the 20 year life of the project for the purposes of monitoring and maintenance. Credits were calculated using Heat Source version 8.**Please note: Because the thermal benefits from this site is being used for a water quality trading compliance program in Oregon, and therefore are subject to a 2:1 ratio, half of the certified credits from this site are held in the City of Medford account on Markit and half are held in retirement in The Freshwater Trust’s Markit account.
