The aim of the project is to protect the Loru coastal rainforest (one of the last stands of lowland rainforest on the East Coast of Espiritu Santo) from deforestation and forest degradation. It also aims to provide livelihood benefits for the Serakar Clan (landowners). Loru holds great cultural significance to the clan but they are under increasing pressure to
develop the land for non-forest land uses common in the surrounding area such as coconut plantations and cattle grazing.
