Description
Waterhead Hill Woodland Creation is a project comprising a gross area of 51.37 ha of woodland and associated designed open ground. The woodland was carefully designed to deliver many objectives of modern forestry – timber production, biodiversity, conservation, improvement of habitats and landscape. This project is also important for local water management – creating new woodlands is considered an efficient way of mitigating flood risk. The main species planted were conifers – Sitka spruce and Norway spruce and native mixed broadleaves (downy birch, alder, and willow). The management of the conifer crop will be of clearfell type, the native broadleaves will be managed by LISS for amenity.
