Description
Phase 2 of Mead is a 33.44 hectare woodland creation project on predominantly reclaimed land. Mead Phase 2 sits alongside Mead Phase 1 and Derbyshire County Council’s Shipley Country Park and Woodside Farm Reserve, and represents an opportunity to create a new native woodland of contiguous publicly accessible land, within the urban fringe between Nottingham and Derby. The project will help to safeguard a significant area of greenbelt land and will make a significant contribution to habitat diversity in the area. Whilst there will be significant changes in land use from the existing restored grassland from 2019, to woodland over the next 5 years, the range of habitat planned and developing naturally will be a substantial increase on what is currently present. Through the ecological surveys and site visits, the biodiversity and species on site have been assessed and the results incorporated within the woodland design – hedgerows and mature trees all being retained, and enhanced through additional planting.
