The Freshwater Trust removed invasive plants and installed native riparian vegetation on Bear Creek, a tributary to the Rogue River in Jackson County, Oregon. This project site provides critical off-channel habitat for spring and fall Chinook and steelhead by restoring the inset floodplain and stewarding the surrounding area. Much of the riparian vegetation in this section of the basin has been altered, dramatically reduced in size or eliminated. Once restored, this section of the waterway will provide long-term shade to the system, enhance native fish and wildlife habitat and improve riparian function. This site is owned by the City of Ashland and managed by the Ashland Parks Department. The City has granted The Freshwater Trust access to the site for the 20 year life of the project for the purposes of monitoring and maintenance.
